Tangled Rapunzel Concept Art Custom Doll

I did this one about two years ago. Not that several people haven't already touched this subject numerous times, but here it is again. Like several people anticipating the movie (at the time before it was officially released), I liked the concept design for Rapunzel more than the final design, at least when it came to her outfit.

I hand drafted the pattern for her dress myself. The hardest part was probably the sleeves. Sleeves are tough for me, even if they are off the shoulder (if anyone has some extra tips for setting sleeves, please share). At least these ones were straight sleeves.

Moving on, the gold trim at her hips is gold-colored metallic embroidery thread that I braided myself. I tried gold ribbon at first, but it frayed too easily, and I needed something a little more sturdy. Also, the stitches were too obvious, and it turned out blending them in with a braid worked fairly well.

I also altered her factory paint a little, by painstakingly removing the glittery pink eyeshadow (yuck) with a toothpick dampened in acetone nail polish remover.

Inevitably, I ended up messing up the preexisting eyebrows and eyelashes, at least on her left side. But, I was able to repaint them without too much difficulty.
