Nightfall from 'ElfQuest'

Description

This is Nightfall, from the wonderful comic, "ElfQuest", by Wendy and Richard Pini. Don't worry, I wrote to them and obtained their permission to post my EQ OOAK fanart, so long as I provided a link to their site: [link] .

She was my first finished OOAK doll project. She was a "My Scene" Chelsea doll in her last life. All of her original hair was removed (ALL of it). Her factory paint has been completely removed using 100% acetone nail polish. Her head was re-rooted using synthetic Kanekalon hair from Doctored Locks (once it's curled, it stays that way, hence my choice to use it). She was then repainted by me using acrylic craft paint (I will be using higher quality paint in the future), and sealed using artist quality acrylic matte sealer (NEVER skimp on the sealers, the ladies in the OOAK group I'm a part of, told me. If you do, in time, the paint yellows. NOT what you want).

Her ears were sculpted (or at least, I tried my hand at sculpting) using Magic-Sculp apoxie clay, then prepped with gesso and painted.

Her jewelry is made with round gold colored wire (someday, I'll use real metals, but only when I am more sure of my skills), and I cut/trimmed down the feather and attached it to her necklace with an even thinner wire. I made her clothing (her bandanna and top--completely freestyle without the aid of a pattern) using a suede cloth that does not ravel. Her leggings are made from the same material using a group pattern, slightly altered to fit her belly-button-type body. The faux-fur lining was then added, again, freestyle, using an X-stitch using a thicker type of embroidery thread.

So, anyway, DO check out "ElfQuest" by Wendy and Richard Pini. [link]

You'll be glad you did. Now, their site has been totally revamped with a neat intro and ALL of the comics (in COLOR) available to read online (it helps if you're trying to figure out the time line), though if you can, I'd also highly recommend finding the colored "Starblaze" editions. Those are the ones my dad had before I could even read, and are my personal favorites.

Wonderful work!
In my childhood, EQ was in colour, but I honestly prefer the bw edition. I somehow find it much more elegant, I think the old editions' rude and bold colours just don't match the fine inking(
